Plaza Indonesia Shopping Centre
Thrilling Shopping Fun in Jakarta
The Plaza Indonesia Shopping Centre first opened to the public in 1990 making it one of the oldest malls in the country. Located in Central Jakarta, the mall has become something of a local landmark and continues to be the country’s premier shopping centre. It was the historic site of Sogo’s flagship department store which stopped operations in 2007. The Plaza Indonesia Shopping Centre contains numerous high-end fashion shops, a plethora of trendy restaurants as well as many entertainment options. In total there are over two hundred shops, spanning an area of over forty thousand square metres, spread over eight floors.
Of course the Plaza Indonesia is not the only shopping mall around. Central Jakarta is popular for its malls and shoppers will find quite a few spots to choose from. There is the modern Entertainment X’nter (also called the e’X Plaza), which is located close to the Japanese Embassy; the Grand Indonesia Shopping Town, which is one of the largest malls around; and the Plaza Senayan, a popular hangout spot which is famous for the Marygold Clock that contains six golden figures that play music every hour.
The archipelago of Indonesia consists of over seventeen thousand islands of which around six thousand are inhabited. It is a highly popular tourist destination, especially the island of Bali, although Jakarta, the capital, also receives a fair share of tourist traffic. Jakarta is located in the island of Java and is the country’s biggest city. The city contains a number of interesting attractions such as the Presidential Palace and Jakarta Chinatown, and is a popular shopping destination as well.
Tourists visiting Jakarta should keep in mind that the city grew organically with new sections added when needed. The resulting metropolis can be a bit of a challenge to navigate. Street numbers often do not follow a linear sequence so it is important for foreigners visiting the city to get accommodation at a Jakarta hotel with a centralised location. Tourists looking for a luxurious hotel in Jakarta that enjoys a convenient location can try Millennium Hotel Sirih Jakarta. The hotel is situated in the centre of the city’s shopping and business district making it the ideal place for both leisure and business travellers.
